Here is the best thing I heard (What?), saw (Eye.), and read (Read.) this week, as well as the best idea (💡) I developed.
What?
Tim McGraw’s song ‘Standing Room Only.’
- A member of my ward shared this song reference in his Sacrament Meeting talk on Sunday, January 28, 2024, and the song fit perfectly with Elder Carlos A. Godoy’s invitation which I shared in General Conference Applied season 2 episode 18.
Eye.
“The Lord Guides Lehi’s Journey” (Book of Mormon Videos):
- 1 Nephi 16:32 – “And it came to pass that I did return to our tents, bearing the beasts which I had slain; and now when they beheld that I had obtained food, how great was their joy! And it came to pass that they did humble themselves before the Lord, and did give thanks unto him.”
- In the visual depiction of this verse, Laman thanks Nephi for obtaining food. It struck me how difficult it must have been for Nephi and his followers to eventually separate themselves from Laman and his followers after they had arrived in the promised land. These were family members who had lived together in harsh circumstances for many years. The visual depiction of The Book of Mormon has greatly expanded my understanding of the text.
Read.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, January 28, 2024 Instagram post:
- “Recently, we spent a short vacation on one of the Hawaiian Islands together with our great-grandchildren.
“Our three-year-old great-grandson Elias was fascinated by a map of the island. I took the opportunity to point out where we were, where the airport was where we arrived, and very soon we would depart from. I also pointed to a sketch showing a lighthouse on the northern coast of the island. Of course, he wanted to know what the lighthouse was for. I explained that it helps people find the right way, even in the darkest hours of the night. He was happy with this explanation.
“Later he brought me the map again, and this time he showed me—where we were, where the airport was, and while pointing at the lighthouse he said, ‘And here is the temple.’
“These are moments in the life of a grandparent more precious than gold. Thanks to parents and the many teachers who help our children recognize the light of Christ wherever it may shine.”

Add a comment to the title of each General Conference address in my Gospel Library app with these two questions: 1) ‘How does this message draw me closer to Jesus Christ?’; 2) ‘How does this message help me become more like Jesus Christ?’
- This is a practical application of the idea I shared in my January 28, 2024 newsletter.
