Here is the best thing I heard (What?), saw (Eye.), and read (Read.) this week, as well as the best idea (💡) I developed.
What?
- [President Dallin H. Oaks] “It is worth noting, at some point, that I often tell people that the greatest period of my growth as an Apostle was the two years in the Philippines. Although that occurred about [18] years after I was called to the Quorum of the Twelve, I was still on a steep learning curve in the performance of my duties as an Apostle, because I had never served as a bishop or a stake president or a mission president or a full-time missionary — I could go on with that list.
“But in the Philippines, I had an opportunity to encounter firsthand the problem of different gospel cultures, the problem of language — which, I had never served outside the United States, and I had never encountered that — I encountered how to encourage people to serve missions, how to finance mission service, how to get people to pay tithing, how to look at standards for establishing a temple. And for me, it was for those reasons and many others, it was a period of greatest learning that I had in my calling in the Quorum of the Twelve.
[Sister Kristen M. Oaks] “And I think when we were in the Philippines, you really taught from the heart. You taught very simply. He spoke to the Filipinos in a way they could truly understand. You were a great, great teacher.
[President Dallin H. Oaks] “Thank you.”

To the recovering perfectionist MAMA, listen to this (Instagram):
- “Cleaning and scrubbing can wait ’til tomorrow.
“For babies grow up,
“We’ve learned to our sorrow.
“So quiet down, cobwebs.
“Dust, go to sleep.
“I’m rocking my baby,
“And babies don’t keep.” - “Lessons from Eve“, October 1987 General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson

Receiving Revelation Until Our Faith Becomes Unshaken – Mark A. Mathews – April 2024 Liahona:
- “‘I cried unto him in mighty prayer … all the day long … , and when night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens’ (verse 4). The experience of Enos shows that intense, persistent prayer invites revelation. However, this does not have to happen through a single, lengthy prayer. As Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained: ‘A spurt may appear to be impressive in the short run, but steadiness over time is far more effective, far less dangerous, and produces far better results. … An attempt to pray one time for several hours likely will not produce the same spiritual results as meaningful morning and evening prayer offered consistently over several weeks.’ [David A. Bednar, “Steadfast and Immovable, Always Abounding in Good Works,” New Era, Jan. 2008, 5.]
“Like Enos, there will be times in our lives when the revelation we seek does not come immediately. When this happens, we should follow his example and continue to pray in faith and faithfully wait upon the Lord.”

Form a “General Conference Club”
- This club will function like a book club
- No more than six club members to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard
- Meet once per month either virtually, in-person, or a combination of both
- Divide the addresses from the most recent general conference into six groups based on themes
- Discuss one group of addresses during each meeting
- Focus on thoughts and insights, invitations and promises, and doctrines and principles
- After the meeting, share what you learned and felt with others who weren’t in attendance
- Contact me if you’re interesting in joining the General Conference Club that I’m forming
